Scott McLaughlin took victory in the ninth race of thr 2017 Supercars season at the Winton Raceway this afternoon in what was 40 laps of nonstop action.

Jamie Whincup was second behind McLaughlin after being chased by Fabian Coulthard for the majority of the race but the Red Bull Holden held the DJR Penske behind him until the finish line.

Late pit stops saw several of the runners who had started toward the back of the pack finish strongly such as David Reynolds, who qualified his Erebus in 14th and finished fourth and Craig Lowndes, who crossed the line in sixth place after starting 19th.

There was a lot of late drama as James Courtney tried to move up through the pack. He tried lap after lap to get past Nick Percat, bumping and readdressing and then fighting with Lee Holdsworth before eventually getting back up behind Percat again. Trying to get past once again on the final lap saw the two bump and Courtney into the gravel and out of the race.

Chaz Mostert retired early with mechanical woes, while Tim Slade and Cameron Waters were both given drive through penalties.
