Western Sydney midfielder Mitch Nichols has had his fine for an offensive gesture towards the crowd funded by Wanderers fans.

A GoFundMe page set up on Monday has already raised more than enough money to pay the $1,000 fine handed to Nichols by Football Federation Australia.

So far 79 people have donated money to the page.

"Following a choke of momumental proportions, a salty Brisbane Roar filed a complaint against Western Sydney Wanderers' midfielder, Mitch Nichols, who 'gestured' at opposition fans after WSW came back from a 3-0 deficit to win semi final #2 5-4," the page, entitled, Nickels for Nichols, says.

"The FFA, with a history of knee-jerk reactions on the back of media outrage, sanctioned Mitch Nichols. Among his penalties is a $1000 fine.

"In thanks to Nichols for his impact in the season past, we ask WSW fans to donate $2 each to cover Nichols' ridiculous penalty.

"The money will be used to cover Nichols' $1000 fine (and whatever charges GoFundMe asks), with the additional funds to be invested into community/charity initiatives,"

"Full transparency will be provided for every dollar received."
