Cristiano Ronaldo has continued his extraordinary UEFA Champions League scoring run by netting all three of Real Madrid’s goals in their 3-0 win over their cross-town rivals, Athletico Madrid, on Wednesday morning (AEST).

The win puts Real in firm control of their semi-final tie with the second leg to take place next week.

Ronaldo opened the scoring with a 10th minute header from a miss-hit cross from Casemiro.

Madrid proceeded to dominate the game but it took until the 73rd minute for the reigning champions to find the scoresheet again, with Ronaldo hitting a powerful volley from just inside the area to put the home side in control.

Ronaldo wasn’t done there, however, as he completed a perfectly executed counter-attack in style, to round out his hat trick, with Lucas providing a delightful cutback.

The treble was his second against Athletic in the 2016/17 campaign, while it was also his second consecutive Champions League hat trick after scoring thrice in Real’s 4-2 win over Bayern Munich in the second leg of the quarter finals.

Monaco host Juventus tomorrow morning in the other semi-final.
