Toro Rosso driver Dani Kvyat had a torrid time in Canada, and that really is an understatement, as the young Russian was handed not one, but two different penalties for the same offence as the first one was deemed not harsh enough.

Kvyat stalled on the grid and the rule is that if the entire field passes you by before you get going, then you have to remain at the back and not weave your way back through the cars to get back into your grid slot for the start of the race. But, Dani failed to obey this rule and reclaimed his 11th placed grid slot for the start of the race. Hence the penalty.

As commentator Martin Brundle said at the time, he had never heard of anything like this ever happening in all the time he has been involved in the sport and it was simply ridiculous to hand out a second penalty for the same offence, but that's what the stewards in Montreal did. Firstly he was given a drive through penalty, which he adhered to, then they officials said it was too lenient and he had to serve a further ten second penalty at his next pit stop.

Brundle wasn't the only one annoyed with the situation, as Dani himself has called the series a ‘f---ing circus!' and he will be demanding answers, but plans to wait until he cools down first…

"I was angry with what's going on. Another penalty, like it's a joke, right? I mean, what are we doing? And I get two points on my license which again is a stupid rule. We are taxi drivers here? Or F1 drivers? I don't understand this. It's a circus, a stupid f---ing circus! I will go and talk to Charlie. It's f---ing... It's annoying, it's really annoying me. A simple job, they can't do it properly. Maybe it's better to go in Baku because now the heat is up for me, I don't want to say anything wrong to anyone.”
