The remarkable transfer of Mariners midfielder Anthony Caceres to the group owning Manchester City has been completed, with the 23-year-old still most likely to end up at Melbourne City in the long term.

After news broke late last week of talks between the disillusioned Central Coast playmaker and the City Group, Caceres is understood to have put pen to paper on Tuesday on a deal that removes another star from the Mariners firmament.

Officially it's thought that Caceres has signed for Manchester City, as transfers between A-League clubs are not allowed, but he is likely to be loaned to Melbourne City eventually.

As with former Brisbane midfielder Luke Brattan, he may be loaned out to a club outside the City group in the interim.
