Arsenal have reportedly completed the medical for Lille central defender Gabriel Magalhaes.

Arsenal look to have all-but-sealed his signature for what is expected to be a £22m ($A40m) fee rising to £27m ($A49m) including bonuses.

Gabriel is set to sign a five-year contract with the Gunners.

Lille president Gerard Lopez told reporters earlier in the week that a decision was expected this weekend.

“We gave him plenty of time to make a decision,” Lopez said.

“We gave him some advice but in the end, he and his entourage will make a choice and we will support it.”

While Arsenal are set to add to their defensive structure, rivals Tottenham Hotspurs are openly shopping full-back Serge Aurier.

The right-back came from Paris Saint-Germain for £23m ($A42m) three years ago, with the Spurs now expected to take a loss in order to raise funds for more transfer activity.

AC Milan reportedly offered £13.5 million ($A25m) as an opening bid, but Tottenham are hoping for at least £18 million ($A33m) in return.
