With the announcement that superstar striker Jamie Vardy has re-signed for Leicester, the Foxes took a massive step in ensuring their long-term success.

Vardy, who was heavily linked with Arsenal, has signed a four-year extension with the current EPL Champions and is set to lead their line for the foreseeable future.

It had long been expected that should a team outside the traditional big five or City, United, Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal, that their roster will be picked in the following season.

Whenever the likes of Southampton, Everton or even Spurs have a breakout season, their stars become targets of the traditionally bigger clubs.

Leicester, who do have the added bonus of actually capturing the title where others had simply played above themselves, look as though they are about to buck the trend.

Vardy, who was bought to the club for just over 1.5 million pounds, scored 24 goals in just 36 appearances for Leicester last season.

In comparison, Diego Costa who cost Chelsea 32 million, scored 12 goals in 28 appearances.

Transfer fees are of course not everything, but it does show just how well Vardy played last season.

For him to turn down the advances of a club who traditionally challenge for the title and compete in European competition, shows just how far Leicester have come.

Although other players, such as Riyad Mahrez, have been linked away from the club, Vardy's re-signing will give the club confidence that their other stars will follow suit.

The temptation for Leicester's best performing players to cash in will be there, however the Foxes have proven they are hardly short of a dollar, and have now proven that the club can provide an avenue for success.

Leicester's 2015/16 season was almost unbelievable. For months and months fans across the globe watched on, wondering how long the fairytale could possible last.

Surely they would stumble, with either Arsenal or Man City pouncing and ultimately capturing the title.

With Chelsea, United and Liverpool out of the way due to poor form, the stage was set for Arsenal's title drought to end. Only a fast starting Leicester stood in their way.

In the end Leicester never faulted. The baron period never arrived. The floodgates never opened. The stars didn't leave in January as some expected.

Fast forward to the end of the season and Jamie Vardy, amongst others, stood atop the podium with the EPL trophy high above his head.

Even though they proved they could do it, despite ridiculous odds, the chances of them repeating such an incredible accomplishment are surely slim to none?

Surely they can't re-find the ability to meek out one-nil wins even though their form had slightly stuttered.

Surely they can't balance the added pressures and demands of European Champions league with week-to-week EPL fixtures.

Surely they can't handle the pressure that comes along with playing as defending champions.

Then again, just a few weeks ago it looked as though surely they couldn't hold onto their prized striking asset in the face of a huge bid from the Gunners.

If Leicester are to back up their fairy tale 2015/16 season, they need to recruit well, and more importantly hold off the advances of bigger clubs who come looking for talent.

Jamie Vardy's re-signing is a massive step in the right direction. Perhaps, just perhaps, Leicester will become the next big club.
