Everton have surprisingly been a hot name in the gossip columns over recent weeks, with players rumoured to be both coming and going from Goodison Park.

Not only have Romelu Lukaku and John Stones been mentioned as possibly heading to big clubs around the country, but the Toffees have also been rumoured to be doing some buying from European teams themselves.

With a new manager and potentially a vastly different squad from last year, it is an exciting time to be on the blue side of Merseyside. Let's take a look at who Everton may be lining up.

Gylfi Sigurdsson

The name the Toffees seem to be linked to most strongly is Icelander Gylfi Sigurdsson from Swansea City, with Ronald Koeman lining up a 25 million pound bid for the 26-year-old mid.

They will have to fend off interest from Leicester City however, with the Premier League champions keen to boost their midfield stocks after the loss of some of their star performers from last season.

Wilfried Bony

Wilfried Bony seems almost certain to be leaving the City of Manchester Stadium after an unhappy spell with Manchester City, and it seems that there are plenty of teams interested in his services.

Among his suitors are Everton, who could put the Ivorian to great use were Romelu Lukaku to leave. At lot will depend on whether Bony would favour a move to Goodison Park over a return to Swansea, or possibly Galatasaray.

Axel Witsel

After plenty of early interest, it seems that the Toffees have finally got their man, Zenit St. Petersburg mid Axel Witsel. However, it appears there is a caveat. Witsel only wants to move to Italian champions Juventus.

Nevertheless, Zenit have agreed to the deal, and if all goes to plan, Witsel will wind up on Merseyside next year. Whether or not all goes to plan is anyone's guess.

Marko Arnautovic

One of the lower key but potentially savvy signings the Evertonians are looking at is Marko Arnautovic from Stoke City. The Austrian is reportedly keen to leave Staffordshire and has just had the best season of his career.

Off the back of his impressive 2015-16 campaign, the Potters are keen to cash in on their forward, rating him at 13 million pounds. If the Toffees are keen to bring their man aboard, said price should not be a deterrent.

William Carvahlo

This would be a dream move for all Everton fans and their club, who are keen to bring the highly rated, 23 year old defensive midfielder over from Sporting CP.

Not only would they have to break their transfer record (he is rated at 30 million pounds), but they would also have to fend off interest from Chelsea, who are keen to return to Europe next season. For either club, Carvahlo could be that difference maker.
