Atletico Madrid star Fernando Torres suffered a sickening concussion during his side’s 1-1 draw with Deportivo on Friday morning AEDT.
Torres jumped for a header, before being hit from behind by Deportivo’s Alex Bergantinos. The pair clashed heads, before Torres hit his head heavily on the ground. However, he appeared to have already lost consciousness before hitting the ground.
“Torres suffered a traumatic brain injury. He was taken to hospital for tests. He will spend the night under observation,” Atletico Madrid said via their official Twitter account.

Play was stopped for several minutes as medicos worked to help Torres, who was eventually stretchered off the ground.
Atletico players looked visibly distressed as Torres was being treated.
Jose Maria Gimenez was particularity distraught, with the defender seen crying in the minutes after Torres hit the turf.
The former Premier League star was taken straight to hospital and will spend at least one night in care.
