A Liverpool side boasting several under-21 players has survived an FA Cup scare, earning a draw at League Two side Exeter to secure a third-round replay at Anfield in a night where young Aussie Brad Smith starred for the Reds.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp made 11 changes to the side that beat Stoke City 1-0 in the League Cup Semi-Final first leg in midweek handing debuts to Kevin Stewart, Ryan Kent and Tiago Ilori.

The Reds fell behind early, when Exeter's Tom Nicholls poked in from close range following a good cross from Josh Read.

Liverpool then equalised shortly after, through 19-year Jerome Sinclair, steering in his first senior goal in a Reds shirt with a low finish after Christian Benteke was fouled in the box.

However, the hosts retook the lead right on half-time when Hungarian goalkeeper Adam Bodgan got it terribly wrong from Lee Holmes's corner allowing the ball to sail over his head directly from the corner.

With time quickly running out in the second half, it was left to Australian International Brad Smith, who rescued the young Reds with a neat finish following an attempted clearance.

It caps off a few decent appearances for Smith who has been receiving high praise for seemingly punching above his weight and challenging the position that is filled by Alberto Moreno.

The date for the replay will be decided at the conclusion of all third round matches which wrap up on Monday morning.
