The EPL is finally back, and what a season it's set to be.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic's first season in the Premier League, Jurgen Klopp's first full season with Liverpool FC and Chelsea starting life after the Jose Mourinho era are just some of the headlines in what is sure to be a drama filled season.

One week of the top flight already has us already itching for Saturday night, so let's discuss some of what we saw in week one of the 2016-17 EPL.

Winners: Hull City

What better way to celebrate a return to the top flight than a first up home victory over the champions from last year, Leicester City. That's exactly what Hull City pulled off on the weekend, topping the Foxes 2-1 in the first fixture of the season.

For a team that will likely face a relegation dogfight all season long, an early win such as this over a formidable opponent will hopefully springboard them to the form required to keep pace with the rest of the English first division.

Losers: Leicester City

No one knows quite what to expect from Leicester this season. They're paying $67 to repeat as champions, but are also paying just $9 to be relegated at the end of the year. It will all be about the consistency Claudio Raineri extracted from them last season.

This was certainly not how the Foxes wanted to kick off this season's campaign. A demoralising loss to the newly promoted Tigers in which they looked far off their relentless best of 2015-16.

Winners: Sunderland

Sunderland have somehow managed to keep their spot in the top tier despite finishing just a handful of spots from the drop zone the past few years. This year, pundits expect much of the same, having them at $3.25 to join their Tyne and Wear brothers in The Championship.

Despite going down to Manchester City at Etihad Stadium through an 87th minute own goal, the Black Cats can be encouraged by a strong showing first up and will return to north east England full of confidence ahead of their match against Middlesbrough.

Winners: Jose Mourinho

Having stepped from one of the hottest gigs in football to one even hotter, Jose Mourinho would have been desperate for a win in week one, even despite playing middle of the table Bournemouth.

Mourinho got that, and got it resoundingly, scoring a 3-1 victory, away from home no less, with new signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic scoring and young gun Anthony Martial grabbing two assists.

Winners: Liverpool

Despite the traditional optimism of Liverpool fans, the Kop was well in tune when they lead Arsenal 4-1 away from home in their first match of the season.

While they did score a confidence-inspiring win, they were unable to put Arsenal away, letting in two goals before the final whistle blew, thanks to no help from the next man on our list…

Loser: Alberto Moreno

Despite the Reds' impressive win at Arsenal on the weekend, Alberto Moreno hit what was perhaps rock bottom in his sides' victory.

Pundits erupted after the victory, such as Gary Neville, suggesting that starting Moreno was essentially “giving the other team a goal head start”. This did not get lost on manager Jurgen Klopp, who is almost certain to drop the Spaniard for either James Milner or Trent Alexander-Arnold.
