After his time at Manchester United came to a swift end on Monday, German international Bastian Schweinsteiger may have a career back at Bayern Munich should the 32-year-old head back home.

Schweinsteiger was ordered to clean out his locker and train with the reserves by manager Jose Mourinho, as 'The Special One' doesn't see the German in his plans for the upcoming season.

An injury-ravaged campaign saw Schweinsteiger make only 31 appearances last season, although Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says the door is always open for the German to return.

“Should he speak at some point about a desire to return, then we will discuss it with him,” Rummenigge told magazine Sport Bild.

At 32 years of age, Schweinsteiger is on the verge of possibly thinking about retirement, but former Germany and Bayern team-mate Oliver Kahn believes it's not yet time for the midfielder to give the game away.

“I'm sure that with all his experience, Basti can still be the leader of a top team. He is definitely too young and too strong to retire,” Kahn wrote on his Facebook page.
