New Melbourne Victory defender James Donachie will face his former side during his debut clash for the Victory when they go up against Brisbane Roar in the season opener on Friday.

Along with that situation, the 23-year-old also needs to think about the situation at the back, as he, Nick Ansell and Alan Baro are all fighting it out for the two starting centre back roles come Round 1.

Donachie however is likely to get the nod ahead of Ansell and will face his former side, which he believes was always going to be the case.

“It came up on my Facebook feed when the fixture came out and I just kind of laughed and thought ‘that'd be right',” Donachie said.

“When you look at it now you've got all of those feelings swirling around, but once you're in the tunnel all you're really thinking about is playing the game and winning."

Donachie spent five years in Brisbane and made 62 appearances for the Roar, although the defender knows that won't be on his mind when the whistle blows on Friday night.

“Right now, of course I'm thinking about going back to my home town, where I've played for five years and all my mates, but on the day I won't really be thinking about that, it'll just be about getting the three points and then coming back to Melbourne," Donachie s

“I'm really looking forward to it and if anything it gives me that little bit of extra motivation.”
