Melbourne City will be stinging after scans revealed star striker Bruno Fornaroli is set to miss at least 6-8 weeks after suffering an ankle injury in the side's FFA Cup win on Tuesday night.
In City's 3-2 win against Hakoah Sydney, Fornaroli was the victim of a horror tackle from Bradley Walker that saw him stretchered off in the first half and while City officials were optimistic on the night, initial scans in a Sydney hospital on Tuesday night the damage was worst than first thought.
Fornaroli will have further scans on the injury on Wednesday upon his return to Melbourne to reveal the full extent of the injury.
Should the Uruguayan miss the expected timeframe, that would mean he would miss Melbourne City's A-League openers against Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory.
Despite Fornaroli's injury, City progressed with a 3-2 win to the quarter final stage of the tournament where they will face Sydney FC in a rematch of last season's final.
