Melbourne City appear to have beaten cross-town rivals Melbourne Victory to the signature of veteran Socceroo Alex Wilkinson.

The Herald Sun has reported that Wilkinson has agreed to terms on a deal with City, after the club made a pitch to the 31-year-old yesterday after the exit of midfielder Erik Paartalu.

Melbourne Victory is reported to have also made an offer to Wilkinson.

He quit South Korean champions Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in December after three seasons with the club.
