Brisbane Roar have a new marquee player for the 2017/18 A-League season, signing Italian striker, Massimo Maccarone.

Maccarone, who is currently 37 years old, has had stints at Middlesbrough, Parma, Siena, Palermo, Sampdoria and most recently, Empoli in Serie B, where he netted 29 goals in 98 appearances.

He has also been capped twice by the Italian national side.

Coach John Aloisi confirmed the news on Monday afternoon.

“Massimo’s excited to be joining us,” Aloisi said.

“He’s still quick and he’s still scoring goals.

“Massimo not only makes great forward runs but he also links up with players around him very well.”

Perth Glory were also reportedly in the race for the Italian.
