Tommy Oar has signed a contract to return to the Brisbane Roar for the next two and a half seasons.

Oar, who has most recently played with English Championship side Ipswich Town, played 23 matches for the Roar between 2008 and 2010, before heading to FC Utrecht in Holland, where he made 117 appearances.

He then signed with Ipswich Town, where he only made nine appearances in half a season, before leaving the club five weeks ago, citing home sickness as the main reason for his decision.

Oar has also made 34 appearances for the Socceroos.

"Tommy is a quality player with a proven record in top-flight football," Roar Football Operations Manager Craig Moore said.

"His signing continues Head Coach John Aloisi's intentions to bring the best and brightest players to the club."
