Melbourne Victory coach Kevin Muscat is adamant new forward Mitch Austin will recover in time for Wednesday night's FFA Cup clash against Newcastle Jets after he picked up a knock on Sunday.

Austin was forced off the field during the first half of the Vicory's 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid after injuring his knee, but Muscat was convinced Austin would heal in time for Melbourne's midweek trip to Newcastle.

"He's [Austin] fine," Muscat said.

"It was a direct knock, knee to knee, so there was no point taking any risks with him."

"[The medical staff have] had a chance to have a look at him… and I'd be very surprised if he's not available."

After winning both of their games during the International Champions Cup against Juventus or Madrid, the Victory will be looking to take winning form into their first competitive outing of the new season, in their Round of 32 FFA Cup match against Newcastle on Wednesday night.
