It was a successful weekend for our Australian stars playing in England, with Aaron Mooy and Matt Ryan both playing crucial roles in their sides wins in the Premier League.
In a historic victory over Manchester United, Mooy starred in midfield, scoring the first goal for Huddersfield in a 2-1 victory. Mooy played out the 90 minutes in superb form to secure Huddersfield’s first win over United in 65 years, and was named man of the match on numerous media outlets.
Brighton goalkeeper Matt Ryan kept a clean sheet in a 3-0 away victory over West Ham, who fired 16 shots at the Brighton goal, with only 2 on target.
Bailey Wright, Massimo Luongo and James Meredith each played full games in the English Championship, as Jackson Irvine came off the bench for Hull City in the 64th minute.
Goalkeeper Brad Jones had a tough week, keeping the 90 minutes for Dutch-club Feyenoord in their 2-1 UEFA Champions League loss to Shakhtar Donetsk, as well as their 4-1 Eredivise defeat in the hands of Ajax.
Aziz Behich was another Aussie scorer overseas, netting for Turkish-club Bursapor in a 3-1 win, and keeping a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw days later.
In Scotland, attacking midfielder Tom Rogic came off the bench in the 73rd minute, registering an assist as part of a 4-2 win. Rogic also featured off the bench in the second half in Celtic’s 3-0 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
In the German Bundesliga, Matthew Leckie played a full game in a 1-1 draw, whilst Robbie Kruse’s Bochum suffered a 1-0 loss in the second division.
Tomi Juric failed to find the back of the net for Swiss club Luzern in a 1-0 defeat.
Socceroo centre-back Trent Sainsbury played 90 minutes for the Chinese Super League’s Jiangsu Suning, conceded 3 goals in a 3-1 loss.
