Chinese side Shandon Luneng is through to the Asian Champions League after a 2-1 win over Adelaide United in last night's playoff match.

Shandon took a two nil lead into halftime, thanks to first half goals from Yang Xu and Diego Tardelli.

But Adelaide came storming back in the second half and could have easily won the match, after Shandon was reduced to 10-mean with 21 minutes to play.

Marcelo Carrusca missed a penalty, before Sergio Cirio scored in the 89th minute to get the Reds back in the match, to set up thrilling finish to the game.

Shandon were forced to nervously hold on for almost 10 minutes of injury time, with the Reds pressing hard to find a late equiliser, with several half chances.

But it was not enough, as Shandon advanced to the Champions League with a 2-1 win.

Adelaide now turn their attention back to the A-League, with a trip to Gosford to face Central Coast on Sunday.
