Tim Cahill's first match for Melbourne City will be in Queensland, as the Socceroos star will face the Brisbane Strikers at Perry Park in the FFA Cup Round of 16 clash on Wednesday night.

Football Federation Australia has granted Cahill clearance after City submitted the contract in time allowing Cahill to make his debut.

The Socceroos' all-time leading goal scorer will likely come off the bench on Wednesday night having only been in training with his new teammates for the past week, and FFA chief executive David Gallop is looking forward to the superstar's first game.

“The entire Football family is looking forward to seeing Tim Cahill make his debut with Melbourne City,” Gallop said.

“If that comes in Wednesday night's FFA Cup match it would be a tremendous showcase of the competition that is at the forefront of FFA's strategy to align the grassroots with the heroes of the A-League.

“We are working through some final contractual points but don't expect any impediments to arise which would get in the way of Tim playing this week.”
