Erebus Motorsport ended the Phillip Island round of the 2017 Supercars Championship with a podium finish thanks to a brilliant driver from their man David Reynolds!

Reynolds proved all weekend long that he had what was needed to play with big boys, crossing the line in a superb third place right behind the two leading Prodrive entrants.

A solid start saw Reynolds move up one spot before the third corner and keeping his nose clean when all the chaos unfolded on the opening lap, he came into the pits for his first stop and came back out in P10. When the lights went out on the safety car, Reynolds displayed incredible pace and made a move down the inside of Rick Kelly before attacking Slade and Courtney.

When he pitted on the second Safety car on lap 25, the team gave him enough fuel to make it home.

Sitting sixth for the sprint to the finish, David was reminded to manage his tyres to ensure they'd last the distance.

It all paid off when the last car made their final stop, shuffling the order and placing Reynolds in third where're he crossed the line soon afterwards.

“Fantastic finish to a pretty good weekend. We were fast in practice, we were pretty good yesterday qualifying eighth which was ruined by dramas in the race, so to qualify 11th and finish third is fantastic,” David said. “The unfortunate bit is I wish I allowed myself to push a bit harder at the end there but I didn't know how the tyres would hold up. I was probably giving away 1.5-seconds a lap; the last ten laps I really backed off so I wish I had a big crack and I think we could have been higher again.”

“My car was really good; great in the first stint, a little bit worse in the second stint for balance but otherwise it was a fantastic race car and easy to drive. I was able to make some good passes and Dale also did a fantastic job. It's great for the team to have two cars in the top eight.”

The team now look forward to the Perth SuperSprint, in two weeks' time.
