Last season:

A resurgence in the second-half of the season saw Perth Glory sneak into fifth spot on the A-League table, as Kenny Lowe's men featured in the finals.

The Glory were ninth with just 12 rounds remaining but 10 wins from their next 11 games saw them creep into fifth spot where an elimination final with Melbourne City awaited them.

Perth went down 2-0 to a Bruno Fornaroli brace, but some scintillating form to close out the season will give the Glory confidence for the upcoming campaign.

Key player: Diego Castro

Last season's Johnny Warren Medalist enjoyed a brilliant campaign throughout 2015-16, scoring 13 goals and providing four assists.

The 33-year-old excelled during his first season in Australia, and Castro's play just continued to get better and better after an initial settling in period.

Castro lit up the A-League with some of the season's most memorable moments, and if the Spaniard can replicate his form again this season with a better supporting cast around him, the Glory will be aiming for a grand final berth.

Why they'll win:

Even though the Glory were the second best team last season when it came to scoring goals with 49 from 27 games, it's hard to see them not eclipsing that mark this season.

Diego Castro, Andy Keogh and Chris Harold were the top three goalscorers for Perth last season, and with the addition of proven A-League players Joel Chianese and Adam Taggart the Glory now have a prolific front third.

Taggart will be itching to make an impact after being forced to sit on the sidelines for the remaining months of the 2015-16 A-League season after joining Perth Glory in January, due to already playing for two clubs in the one year.

The 23-year-old won the Golden Boot for the 2013-14 A-League season before leaving for Fulham, and if Taggart can replicate that form it'll add another string to Perth's already strong bow.

Why they won't:

It's hard to pinpoint a real weakness in this Glory side which bodes quite well for Perth manager Kenny Lowe.

If there had to be one however, it may just be that the Glory don't have the same quality all over the park that their Melbourne counterparts do.

Victory and City are seen as the teams to beat this season and while the Glory are one of their main challengers, they could find it a bit difficult to match it with those two in terms of quality in all areas.

They've certainly brought in players who can help them get to the next level, but until they've completely settled in the A-League, the Glory may still just be that slight step below.

Starting XI: (All starting XI's are default 4-4-2)

Goalkeeper: Liam Reddy

Defenders: Josh Risdon, Alex Grant, Rhys Williams, Joe Mills

Midfielders: Nebojsa Marinkovic, Diego Castro, Rostyn Griffiths, Chris Harold

Attackers: Andy Keogh, Adam Taggart

Predictions: 4th

We believe any side in the top four can win this competition, and the Glory certainly have the makings of a grand final squad if all goes right.

Their new signings look like they'll complement their existing players well, and if they can pick up where they left off from last season, then the Glory are primed for a deep run in this year's finals series.
