Reports in Spain claim Manchester United will go head to head with AC Milan to sign Real Madrid playmaker Isco.

Despite adding the likes of Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Spanish outlet AS reports that United boss Jose Mourinho is still on the hunt for top quality reinforcements for his squad, and that the Portuguese has identified Isco as a potential January target.

Isco has failed to hold down a regular starting place at the Bernebau since joining Real from Malaga for £23m in 2013, while he has been continually overlooked by current boss Zinedine Zidane – the Spanish international has featured only three times from the bench in La Liga so far this season.

The report indicates that Serie A side AC Milan are also monitoring Isco's situation, while a host of clubs would no doubt be interested if Isco did indeed become available.

Any move to United could put further pressure on Red Devil's captain Wayne Rooney. The England international already has a tenuous hold on his first XI place, having been benched for United's impressive win over Leicester City.
