It looks increasingly likely that Mario Balotelli will be heading back to Anfield, after failing to impress AC Milan during the 2015-16 Serie A season.

Balotelli only managed one goal in 20 league appearances after joining the rossi neri on a season long loan in August, with Milan set to choose to not buy the striker outright.

The Italian had also struggled for form at Liverpool since signing for £16 million from AC Milan in August 2014, before the Reds sent the now 25-year-old to Milan on loan.

AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi has confirmed that Balotelli will be one of several departures from the club this summer.

"There are many departures in sight, and Mario is one who will end his contract with us," Berlusconi told Italian publication, Telelombardi.

"There is also Mexes, Alex, Boateng and others, all five are at the end of their contract, and then some other names that we put on the market."
